Box room with stairs bulk head thing!

Our smallest bed room has the stairs bulk head thing in it.
When we moved in 2 years ago we got a huge cupboard built in over it buts it's a stupid annoying cupboard that needs changing!
But I can't work out what would be best to do with it...
It's too deep for a wardrobe as it is.
I've attached a pic...
I'm thinking either a built in bed or a better designed built in wardrobe / cupboard.
It's baby boys roon - he's almost 2 & I really want to make it nice for him
What would you do with it?

I'm standing on a single bed in the pic so we could fit one in on the other side..

We had exactly this. My son was in there in a toddler bed until he was 6! The cupboard was built before we bought the house. Last year we had it demolished, the whole room plastered/skimmed, new carpet & a joiner built in a cabin bed over the box thing. It's great. The room feels much bigger now. Have attached before (during really!) & after.

I have the stair bulk head in my small room.
there is probably an awful lot of wasted space in there?
I have a 'step' then another step and the wardrobe built in to be like a normal wardrobe depth. This means that you can use the step as a bedside table / step up to get to the wardrobe.
There is room for the bed alongside my 'boxed in' bit but you could use it as the bottom of the bed base, and have the wardrobe door opening out on the other side of the cupbaord?

Liz79's solution is neater than the arrangement I have in my box room
My bed goes along the bottom of the room under the window

Here it is fully finished. There's a bit of a shelf thing at the head end as space a bit longer than standard mattress, and a little ledge at the side of which he puts a water bottle & stuff on.

Where is the window? And the length/width of the room? If it's opposite the bulkhead then don't put the bed over it unless there's somewhere else good to put a wardrobe.
We're planning to do wardrobe over but with the door at the side (where your room door is leaning) and shelves in the empty space at the back.
The step idea looks good too.

I don't think it looks bad at all. It's a mini walk-in closet ;) I'd leave it as is and just made sure the inside is kitted out nicely. Or perhaps changed the door if it feels awkward.

I love mumsnet!
Loads of brilliant ideas & pics thank you!!
Yep kiroro loads of water space in there - there's loads of crap just piled up in there atm
Love the bed & little ledge Liz that looks perfect
Window is opposite the bulk head & could fit a little wardrobe & chest of drawers on the other wall
Dh wants to leave it as it and make the cupboard better but I want to rip it out 😀
Some pics I found on Pinterest...

He has a freestanding wardrobe & "Lego station" on the other side. It's an Ikea trofast storage bench with a desktop on it. The desktop is the same as what the beds made from ie laminated chipboard in oak effect. When he's older we'll put legs on so it's a desk. The wardrobe is Ikea but we bought doors (made to measure but price matched to Ikea) from the same wood supplier, there's draws in it as well as hanging space. Please excuse the mess

What a lovely room - love the messy toys, that's what they're supposed to look like 😀
thanks Liz79💐

Thanks, we like it. It is a much more useful space than before & will grow with him. The storage under the bed is more useful than when it was over the box. Kids were disappointed when I put stuff in there as it is an ideal den

We boxed in and shelved our stair bit and made the rest of the wall built in wardrobe. Perfect space for storing shite! Actually wish we had been smarted and made the top of the box a lift up lid for more storage of said shite

Aw this was my bedroom when I was little. It sucked
My neighbour built a bed into the room, but I liked being able to change the layout of my room when I felt like it. Luckily I'm only 5'4 so even at 19 before I moved out, I had an extendable toddler bed which fitted in the space.
